Building the first NHS Nightingale Hospital
acumen7’s first virtual monthly meeting kicked off with a fascinating insight into the collaboration and exceptional commitment that was required to build the first
NHS Nightingale Hospital in London’s ExCeL. Around 200 military personnel from the Royal Anglian Regiment and Royal Gurkha Rifles worked alongside contractors including Wilson James and Mace to open the hospital in just nine days. The new hospital is the first and largest in a series of emergency hospitals being rolled out by the NHS to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic across the country.
The second part of the meeting was led by EODEX’s Director Andrew Woollven, who showcased their innovative solution to UXO clearance. The underwater explosive specialists provide safe, reliable, cost effective and importantly, environmentally considerate solutions, to meet even the most challenging subsea projects. EODEX’s low order modern process of deflagrating the explosive, recognised as a specialist military technique, enables the explosive fill to be gently burnt out, causing minimal impact on the marine environment when compared with the traditional method of using a violent detonation.
