Green financing at the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development

Members of the acumen7 network welcomed Sumeet Manchanda from the EBRD, a multilateral financing institution established in 1991 to support transition to market economies. They are owned by 66 countries, the EU and the EIB. The EBRD’s three key operational principles are sound banking, transition impact and environmental sustainability.


The EBRD has financed over 1,350 green projects, signed 26 billion euros of green financing and avoided 70 million tonnes of CO²/year.



Sumeet’s challenge to the group was how the pace of energy efficiency in retrofits for existing buildings be increased.
