Green financing at the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development

Members of the acumen7 network welcomed Sumeet Manchanda from the EBRD, a multilateral financing institution established in 1991 to support transition to market economies. They are owned by 66 countries, the EU and the EIB. The EBRD’s three key operational principles are sound banking, transition impact and environmental sustainability. The EBRD has financed over 1,350 green projects, signed 26 billion euros of green financing and avoided 70 million tonnes of CO²/year. Sumeet’s challenge to the group was how the pace of energy efficiency in retrofits for existing buildings be increased.

Battersea Power Station Redevelopment

Members of the acumen7 network visited the Battersea Power Station redevelopment for a tour organised by acumen7 member Dr Aran Verling, a partner at Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). IPD has identified £264m of savings on £2.7bn of live work – a return on investment for the client of over 26:1. Since buying the Battersea Power Station site in 2012, the shareholders have invested huge amounts into this £9 billion project. Once completed, the restored Power Station building will include over 250 apartments, over 500,000 sq ft of office space that will become Apple’s new London Campus and business members’ club, No18.
