Kepler Energy is bringing forward plans for a 30MW tidal energy fence that will be located in the Bristol Channel. The tidal energy technology, akin to a water mill and which will use the very latest carbon composite technology, has been developed by Oxford University’s Department of Engineering Science for deployment in shallower, lower velocity tidal waters around the UK coastline but also in overseas waters. Subject to planning and financing, the initial Bristol Channel 1km £143m tidal fence, which is likely to be located in the Aberthaw to Minehead stretch of water, could be operational by 2020/21. Infrastructure Intelligence Article on Kepler Energy

In December 2013 at the acumen7 annual Christmas Dinner, Anthony Oliver and Jackie Whitelaw introduced the members and guests to their new publication Infrastructure Intelligence, produced for the Association for Consultancy and Engineering. The first editions have now been published and the 28th May 2014 on-line edition includes a long article on power generation developments in the Bristol Channel. This features Hinkley Point C developments, as well as a write up of the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon and of Kepler Energy’s plans to install a tidal fence in the Minehead area to generate over 600MW.
